In 2017, our little family of three was living in the beautiful country of South Korea. I was just a few years into my health and holistic lifestyle, learning and growing quickly!
However, being in South Korea was good for me in the sense that I only had one baby and a lot of free time to learn and grow into the mom I want to be.
I had graduated from a private college in 2015, and have a bachelor’s degree in nursing. I have always loved health and wellness – especially when it comes to taking care of others!
However, taking care of patients in a hospital that were suffering from the long lists of side effects at the hands of the medications we were administering, really pushed me into seeking alternative methods from our typical western medicine approaches.

What is pink eye?
Pink eye can occur when a virus, bacteria, or even a histamine response occurs and irritates the eye. These irritants cause inflammation to the thin membrane covering the inside of the eyelids (conjunctiva), and the white part of the eyeball.
Symptoms of pink eye
The culprits mentioned above cause the conjunctiva to be inflamed and the tiny blood vessels in the eye to dilate. This causes the eye to turn from its glossy pearly white to a pinkish or reddish color.
Some common symptoms of pink eye are:
- Whites of eyes become pink or reddish in color
- Blurred vision can occur
- Eyelid swelling and inflamed
- Discharge of pus or mucus which can be clear, white, yellow, or green
- Crusting around the lashes from the discharge – more common in the morning
- Itching, irritation, or burning sensations
- Watery eyes or teary
- Sensitivity to bright light

Rewind back to Korea. My sweet little toddler got pink eye, probably from our dog who also had pink eye.
I was in a foreign country. Not wanting to put my baby on antibiotics with potential side effects. So, having just finished reading an excellent book on colloidal silver I was encouraged to naturally treat with that. I had some on hand and started to naturally treat the pink eye by dropping it in my little girl’s pink eye as well as our dog’s.
I watched her carefully, knowing that if it didn’t show signs of improvement after a couple of days I would need to take her in and get her antibiotics.
Thankfully, her and our dog’s pink eye started to look better after two days. So I kept with the colloidal silver by using 2-3 drops in the infected pink eye three times a day.
I was so relieved, but I continued to do nightly colloidal silver drops in my daughter’s healed pink eye for another week just to be sure that the pathogens had been completely killed off.
How I naturally treated pink eye for my cat
This year we got four kittens…yep four. But they aren’t allowed inside of the house. So that’s nice. They are barn kitties that will reduce the rodent and snake population on our property.
Well, along with those kittens we got some Indian Runner ducks – my most favorite in the whole wide world! They look like little running bowling pins – it’s hilarious and adorable!
My daughter’s kitten that she has become attached to was making it a habit to rest in the ducklings poop…
Then you guessed it. That kitten got pink eye.
Thankfully, as you just read, I have had experience in naturally and successfully treating pink eye at home.
Using a dropper of colloidal silver diligently each day, the kitten’s eye was back to normal in three days.
What is colloidal silver?
Colloidal silver is a liquid that contains tiny microscopic particles of silver suspended within it.
Additionally, colloidal silver has been used for decades for it’s strong antimicrobial properties and effects.
For centuries it has treated a plethora of bacterial infections and other ailments. Studies have been published confirming that colloidal silver can eliminate bacteria, viruses, and yeasts!
How colloidal silver works to naturally treat pink eye
Colloidal silver is slow to move. However, in the presence of tissues, oxygen, moisture, and body fluids, it releases active colloidal silver ions that bind to the bacterial cell membranes and proteins!1
Evidently, colloidal silver has shown to be antimicrobial in many scientific papers. Its antimicrobial properties are shown to penetrate bacterial cell walls and increase the bacteria’s oxidative stress with antioxidants! Furthermore, this causes the bacteria protein to become denatured and inactive, which leads to bacterial death!1
This is just amazing to me! Essentially, it is the reverse of what harmful free-radicals do to our bodies and that is just so cool that something so inexpensive can help us fight bacterial infections without harmful side effects!
How to use colloidal silver for pink eye
There is a lot of opinions on the internet, so I will tell you what we used and what worked for us.*
Each time we have had great success treating pink eye naturally with colloidal silver, 10ppm. The most effective and safest way to administer colloidal silver to your eye is with a dropper.
Here’s what we do:
- We administer it 3-4 times each day, via dropper.
- I like to flush the eye with a good amount, depending on the size of the eye ball.
- A small kitten is about five drops to flush during each administration of colloidal silver.
- However, for a dog or person with a larger eye ball, and depending how bad the inflammation is, I use about 10-15 drops each 3-4 times per day.
- I do not recommend you use a spray version of colloidal silver in the eye.
- It could hurt the eye with the force of the spray.
- It doesn’t flush out the gunk like a dropper will do.
- If symptoms are not better after 3-4 days I would seek a doctor to evaluate and create a treatment plan based off their findings.

Can you naturally treat pink eye without going to the doctor?
Our family has done so, quite successfully three times! However, I will always recommend that you do extended research, consult your health care provider, and use caution when reading things on the internet. Not everything works for everyone and not everything should be tried on everyone. Just because it works for my household doesn’t mean it will be the exact same for yours.
