Growing up in a family of all girls, there are very little memories I have of “rough” play. We would occasionally scrape a knee or accidently get a bruise, but really those were rare times in my childhood. Fast forward to being a mom to three boys with scrapes, bruises, bumps, goose eggs, swelling, broken bones, and well, you name it, they have done it – and my oldest just turned five.
Pray for my fragile nerves as I barely hold myself together over here!
Raising boys is a totally different world than my own familiar childhood. Years ago, when I first heard of arnica gel, my curiosity was sparked. Homeopathy was not covered in nursing school, so a new world was being discovered in my journey through motherhood. I still feel like a novice learning about homeopathy in general, but applications like arnica gel I am comfortable with. I can attest to the powerful relief it has had on many within and outside of my family.
What is Arnica?
Arnica montana is a homeopathic remedy. It comes from using the roots, whole fresh plant, or dried flowers from the Fallkraut or leopard’s bane plant.1 The plant itself is toxic if ingested. When this medicine is created in homeopathy, it is diluted over and over until the actual plant itself is no longer presence, but rather the “essence” of the plant is there.
Trust me when I say, this confuses me beyond belief, and I still don’t understand how homeopathy can be real. Regardless, it has helped my family and friends over the years in countless ways.
Let’s look at how arnica gel can help.
What Does Arnica Gel Do?
Arnica gel is for topical use only. It is not for open wounds and should not be used near areas that can get into mucus membranes, such as the eyes, nose, and mouth. Please make sure you read the package before using it.
Here is a list of symptoms it can help alleviate:
- bruising
- swelling
- inflammation
- pain
- arthritis
- strained muscles
- afterbirth pains
- mensuration pains
- post-operation pain
- low back pain
- other types of musculoskeletal pain
- injuries caused by blunt objects
Does Arnica Gel Really Work?
Yes, it does work in my personal experiences, which I’ll share with you at the end, and with my family and friends experiences. But who am I? Let’s talk about clinical studies that were done to explore how it relieved pain.
In clinical trials testing the effects of pain relief, arnica gel and cream demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-microbial, and other biological activities. These trials concluded that arnica served as a therapeutical approach for acute and chronic pain management! 2
Furthermore, this method of pain relief has been used for centuries!1
Personal Experiences Using Arnica Gel
I started using this natural medicine on my boys when they would get little bruises. After using arnica gel, I was surprised at how quickly this natural medicine seemed to remove the fresh bruise shortly after applying a couple of times – all within the first 24 hours. Thereafter, no more awful looking bruises!
Next, I started using it on myself, not just on bruises, but on my swollen, broken body during my fourth pregnancy. It helped so much in areas of leg cramps, swelling, sciatic pain, joint pain, and just overall pregnancy pain.
Then after my baby was born, I had the most intense after birth pains – they were awful! In the past, I had used lavender oil, white fir oil, arnica tablets, and other things. Well, this time those things didn’t really help. So, I remembered my arnica gel and gave it a try. It alleviated the intensity so much and brought a huge comfort and relief during my postpartum! I have recommended many other mom friends to try arnica gel for their littles’ bruises, and they have reported quick healing like in my kids’ experiences. My 84-year-old grandfather and my mother suffer from chronic back pain, and much to their surprise, arnica gel has helped bring them some relief!
Recently, my five-year-old son broke his nose during my kids’ first lemonade stand. Thankfully it was a straight break not requiring surgery. His skin was intact, so I was able to apply arnica gel hours after it happened. The doctor warned that his face was going to look worse the next day, with more bruising and swelling. This was not the case for him. The arnica gel stopped the swelling and bruising from getting much worse. After five days, his swelling was nearly gone and his bruising was faint!
You can usually find it at any health food store, or here on amazon. I highly suggest you look into this treasure I have found. I think it will help with bruises and pain in your home as well!
Remember
It is important to treat arnica gel like all medicines within your home. Keep it out of reach of your children when storing. Ingesting arnica gel can be toxic. Furthermore, arnica gel is for topical use only on wounds that are not open.
Let me know in the comments if you have heard of arnica gel before or if you are already using it!
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
